ZFWC Members and Partners in Florida Send Open Letter Calling on Florida Congressional Delegation to Co-Sponsor the Food Date Labeling Act

The Zero Food Waste Coalition, in collaboration with its members and partners in Florida, united organizations across the state in support of the federal Food Date Labeling Act (H.R.3159, S.1484). These organizations were asked to sign a letter calling on the Florida delegation in Congress to co-sponsor this commonsense legislation that would standardize date labels across the U.S.

Over 50 Florida-based organizations voiced their support by signing the letter. These organizations represent a diverse set of stakeholder groups, including hospitality, food recovery, farming, compost, academia, and more. The Coalition believes everyone has a role to play when it comes to addressing food loss and waste, and standardizing date labels through federal legislation is one of the low-cost, low-effort ways to ensure more of the safe, wholesome food grown and imported in the U.S. is actually consumed by people.

The letter was shared with the senators and members of the House of Representatives representing Florida in Congress. The Coalition is now looking to their leadership in supporting Florida consumers and businesses by signing on as co-sponsors to the FDLA.
