ZFWC Launches New Technical Assistance Opportunity for State Food Waste Policy

The Coalition seeks proposals from community-based organizations, nonprofits, coalitions, businesses, and local, state, and tribal government agencies that are ready to advance policies that address food waste and strengthen local food systems. \n\n

About the Opportunity

ZFWC welcomes proposals from applicants seeking to pass or implement food waste policy through legislative or administrative channels in either 2026 or 2027. Selected partners will receive up to one year of customized technical assistance from the Coalition’s Steering Committee. Support may include:

  • Strategic planning and facilitation for coalition-building and stakeholder engagement
  • Support navigating political or structural barriers to policy passage and implementation
  • Legal and policy research, including model policy drafting
  • Development of communications and advocacy materials

Eligibility

Any U.S.-based community organization, nonprofit, coalition, business, or local, state, or tribal government, or a group of two or more of such organizations, interested in advancing food waste policy, is encouraged to apply. Applications are especially welcomed from communities and regions with significant food waste challenges or gaps in comprehensive food waste policy.\n\n

The Zero Food Waste Coalition aims to inform and influence policy at the local, state, and federal levels, and share policy updates and opportunities with partners and stakeholders around the country to bring consumers, businesses, and government together to make food loss and waste history. The Coalition was launched by Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), World Wildlife Fund (WWF), ReFED, and The Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic (FLPC) in April 2023, formalizing a partnership that began in January 2020.
